Division's Function
Nutrition labeling and claims is important to protect the public against health hazards and fraud in the preparation, sale and use of food. It also benefits the food industry by marketing their enhanced product profile to the consumer, as well as increasing international trade opportunities.
Food Chemistry Division provides analysis that covers all the requirements of the nutrition labeling regulations. These analyses include the mandatory nutrients that must be declared on a nutrition label :
- Energy
- Protein
- Carbohydrate
- Fat
- Total sugars (for ready-to-drink beverages)
- Others (Vitamins, fatty acid and minerals)
