The Department of Chemistry is made up of laboratory network throughout the country, providing scientific analysis, investigation and consultancy to government agencies. It aims to support law enforcement together with the implementation of programmes related to water safety, food, environment and industrial products to protect and develop public health and safety to The public, and protect the interests of consumers as well as health and safety at the workplace.
The Department also provides technical and consultancy services in:
- Valuation of product specifications for government contracts.
- To ensure the value of government expenditure;
- Customs Tariff classification article for import/export
- For the purpose of leasehold collection and to ensure the government’s revenue and evaluation of chemical laboratorium for compliance with ISO standards.
Food and several industrial products for export are also analyzed to ensure adherence to quality standards and international safety and thus ensure competitiveness in the global market.
The provision of this service is available throughout the country including the laboratories located at the headquarters in Petaling Jaya along with 13 other strategic locations in Alor Setar, Pulau Pinang, Ipoh, Melaka, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu, Kuantan, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Kuching, Sibu and Bintulu.
