Jabatan Kimia Malaysia Proficiency Testing (JKM PT)

Participation in Proficiency Testing (PT) schemes is a prerequisite to the quality assurance in the operation of a chemical testing laboratory. Jabatan Kimia Malaysia (Department of Chemistry) provides PT services in environment, food and water analyses, for chemical testing laboratories mainly in Malaysia and including some foreign laboratories. This service is soon to be extended to include microbiological testing in food and water.

JKM PT Programme is coordinated by the Traceability & Calibration Unit of the Research and Quality Assurance Division with technical input from various laboratories of Jabatan Kimia Malaysia.

Process of PT

Each participant is provided with a set of samples together with instructions, a result sheet form and a reply form. Participants shall then carry out the tests using their usual methods of analyses and results submitted using the provided result sheet form.

JKM will carry out data evaluation using ‘robust statistics’ and comparison of result from each individual laboratory is made with consensus result of the entire group. This is based on ILAC G13:2000 and MS ISO/ IEC G43:2000.

Each participant is provided with a confidential code number. Reference to the laboratories’ performance in the PT Reports will be made through these code numbers. The code number will only be known to the particular participant and a few relevant personnel managing the JKM PT programme. For SAMM/ISO 17025 accredited laboratories in Malaysia, the performance may be made available to the accreditation body, Department of Standards Malaysia, DSM, if so requested.

Notes:

1.      Participants are required to fax the reply form as soon as sample is received. This helps us
make sure that participants receive samples on time and in good condition.

2.      Results are to be reported in units as per instruction and in the result sheet.

3.      Result sheet form shall be returned on time. Late result will not be included in the report.

4.      Initial report will be issued after two (2) months of sample dispatch.

Laboratories wishing to participate should complete the participation form and submit to the address indicated. Any enquiries can be directed to the following persons:
