Pada 12 September 2014, Yang Berhormat Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin, Menteri Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi Malaysia telah merasmikan pusat DNA Forensik Jabatan Kimia Malaysia Cawangan Sabah dan melancarkan aplikasi Pra Pendaftaran SPIM (Sistem Pengurusan Informasi Makmal) . Encik Ahmad Ridzuan Bin Ibrahim , Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Kimia Malaysia telah memberi ucapan aluan diikuti dengan ucapan perasmian YB Menteri MOSTI.

Seramai dua ratus tetamu dari beberapa jabatan dan agensi dibawah MOSTI dan juga jabatan-jabatan persekutuan di Sabah turut hadir pada hari tersebut. Lapan pegawai dari Jabatan Kimia Malaysia Petaling Jaya , di antara mereka ialah Tuan Hj. Ismail Talib, Timbalan Ketua Pengarah Kimia, Dr. Kamarruddin Bin Asri, Pengarah Forensik, Tengku Muhamad Bin Tengku Abdullah, Pengarah Bahagian Khidmat Pengurusan, Encik Baktiar Kassim, Ketua Seksyen DNA, tiga pegawai ICT dan seorang Pegawai Perhubungan Awam telah menghadiri majlis ini dan memberi sokongan moral kepada warga kimia Sabah.

Pusat DNA forensik telah mula diubahsuaikan dengan bantuan dan seliaan pegawai dari Pasukan Projek Sabah, JKR Malaysia pada 24 Oktober 2013 dan kerja-kerja pengubahsuaian telah siap pada 09 Disember 2013. Kos yang dibelanjakan untuk pengubahsuaian makmal latihan di tingkat bawah kepada pusat DNA forensik ialah RM 214, 468.00. Manakala kos peralatan saintifik termasuk latihan ialah RM2.922 juta. Kerja validasi kaedah-kaedah ujian dijalankan dari bulan Januari sehingga 06 Jun 2014 dan perkhidmatan analisa DNA bermula pada 09 Jun 2014.

Ketibaan YB Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin ke Jabatan Kimia Malaysia Cawangan Kota Kinabalu, Sabah dan disambut oleh Encik Ahmad Ridzuan Bin Ibrahim, Ketua Pengarah Kimia bersama Tuan Haji Ismail Talib, Timbalan Ketua Pengarah Kimia, Puan Ong Jeok Chin, Pengarah Kimia Sabah dan Encik Biling AK Peter Raig, Ketua Bahagian Forensik, Jabatan Kimia Malaysia Cawangan Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Pusat DNA forensik di Jabatan Kimia Malaysia Cawangan Sabah ialah pusat yang kelima di Jabatan Kimia Malaysia selepas pusat DNA forensik di Johor, Pulau Pinang, Sarawak dan Ibupejabat di Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Pada hari yang sama, Yang Berhormat Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin telah melancarkan Aplikasi Pra Pendaftaran SPIM Jabatan Kimia Malaysia . Aplikasi ini beroperasi secara atas talian adalah satu lagi usaha inovatif Jabatan Kimia Malaysia untuk memberi kemudahan kepada para pelanggan mendapatkan perkhidmatan Jabatan ini. Aplikasi ini telah berjaya diintegrasikan dengan sistem SPIM Jabatan Kimia Malaysia dan penggunaan aplikasi ini dapat mengurangkan masa menunggu pelanggan di kaunter-kaunter pendaftaran kes dan mempercepatkan proses penerimaan barang kes.

Pameran daripada setiap Seksyen di bawah Jabatan Kimia Malaysia, Cawangan Kota Kinabalu juga diadakan sempena majlis ini dijalankan. Di samping menerangkan bidang tugas dan beban kerja setiap seksyen melalui berbagai poster, contoh-contoh ekshibit juga dipamerkan. KIOSK jabatan telah dinaiktaraf dan dikemaskini dengan applikasi Pra Pendafaran SPIM. Pelanggan diberi peluang untuk mencuba applikasi tersebut. Pameran ini telah berjaya menarik perhatian daripada para pengunjung. Majlis ini telah bermula pada pukul 02.15 petang dan tamat pada pukul 05.00 petang.

Scientist Icon Roadshow, Melaka State Stage 2014

Melaka, 10th September 2014 – Department of Chemistry Malaysia, Melaka branch participated in an exhibition held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Hang Kasturi, Masjid Tanah, Melaka under the Scientist Icon Roadshow Programme organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). The programme was officially opened by the Honorable Deputy Minister of  MOSTI, Y.B. Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Bin Mohamad Diah. The objective of this programme was to stimulate mind development and to inculcate interest of students in science, as well as to expose them to scientific activities in their daily life. It also aimed at motivating students to be involved in science and technology by sharing the experience and success of scientists.

Other agencies under MOSTI that took part in the exhibition were Malaysian Nuclear Agency and Technology Park Malaysia. Visitors came from students and teachers from the host school, and invitees from its neighbourhood. Participation by the Department of Chemistry this time included demonstration on pH testing, analysis of colouring matter in tea dust, determination of sugar content in food and beverages. Exhibits on display included food, alcoholic drink, tablet and several types of dangerous drugs, firearm casing and bullets. The demonstration and displayed items received good and encouraging response from visitors.

On the part of Department of Chemistry, this programme which was held from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm, was considered successful with the attraction of around 400 visitors to its booth.

Carnival Kimia Malaysia (K2M) 2014 Terengganu Branch

Carnival Kimia Malaysia (K2M) 2014 was successfully held on 27 to 30 August 2014 at Taman Tamadun Islam, Kuala Terengganu. This carnival was held in conjunction with Festival Sains Teknologi Dan Inovasi (FeSTI) organized by MOSTI to promote public awareness and interest in the science, technology and innovation especially in the chemistry field. The Institute Kimia Malaysia (IKM Terengganu Branch) in collaboration with Pusat Sains & Kreativiti Terengganu (PSKT), Jabatan Kimia Malaysia Terengganu Branch and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) was conducted the carnival with the theme “Let’s Us Talk About Chemistry”. The carnival comprises poster exhibition, demonstrations and lectures.

The objectives are to enthuse and inspire young people about chemistry, to empower them as citizens and to create the next generation of chemist. To enhance public access to research and to stimulate discussion of scientific methods and results, their relevance, and the wider implications for society, to support researchers in their endeavour to be reflective about issues raised by their research and to illustrate the innovative and inventive nature of chemistry.

The programs are the exhibitions from several agencies like Cyber Security Malaysia, Petrosains (KLCC), Bio- Technology Malaysia, Jabatan Alam Sekitar, Bomba dan Penyelamat, Teknologi Park Malaysia and many more. There are also 6D Truck, Portable Dome, Quiz, Scientist Zone, 1001 Invention, Interactive Game, Science Demonstration and so on.

This 4 days carnival was attracted the government and private agencies, colleges and secondary school, as well as the public not only from Terengganu but also from Pahang and Kelantan.

Pada 3 hingga 5 September 2014, Unit Kompetensi telah menganjurkan Kursus Sistem Profail Latihan di Pusat Latihan Kimia Malaysia, Melaka. Seramai 28 orang pegawai yang terdiri daripada gred 17 hingga 41 yang terlibat secara langsung dalam urusan penggunaan dan perekodan sistem telah menghadiri kursus ini.

Tujuan kursus diadakan adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman tentang panduan dan kaedah memenuhi ketetapan 7 hari berkursus,  memperkenalkan Sistem Profail Latihan (SPL) serta tatacara penggunaan sistem kepada para peserta; meningkatkan pemahaman pengunaan rekod latihan dan pengklasifikasian berdasarkan program latihan; menyeragamkan pengunaan terma dan penulisan di dalam sistem; dan memastikan para peserta faham dan terlatih untuk menggunakan sistem.

Penceramah kursus adalah Encik Chandra Mohgan a/l Lechmann dari Bahagian Pengurusan Sumber Manusia, Kementerian Sains Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI) dan Puan Siti Hawa binti Misran dari Unit Teknologi Maklumat, Bahagian Pembangunan Teknologi Maklumat, Ibu Pejabat. Penceramah yang dijemput telah dikenalpasti mempunyai kemahiran dan kepakaran dalam sistem tersebut.

Para peserta telah mengikuti sesi ceramah dan latih amal berdasarkan modul yang telah direkabentuk bagi mencapai objektif kursus yang telah ditetapkan. Di penghujung kursus, didapati peserta telah memahami dengan lebih terperinci langkah yang perlu diikuti agar kesalahan merekod dapat dikurangkan. Penyeragaman juga dapat dicapai diantara peserta dari Ibu Pejabat dan Cawangan. Kursus ini amat berguna terutama kepada peserta dari Jabatan Kimia Malaysia Cawangan Negeri, Sabah dan Sarawak memandangkan peserta hanya mengenali sistem melalui garispanduan, emel dan panggilan telefon.
