STI Awareness Programme by Department of Chemistry Malaysia, Melaka Branch in August 2014

One exhibition and two visits to the Department were recorded for the month of August, as follows:

1) Exhibition at SMK Hang Kasturi, Masjid Tanah, Melaka (06 August 2014)

An exhibition highlighting the role of forensic and environmental science was held at Sekolah Menengah Hang Kasturi, Masjid Tanah, Melaka in conjunction with the Core curriculum Carnival of the school.  Other agencies participating in the carnival were the Royal Malaysian Police, the Wataniah Army, RELA, SIRIM, Agriculture Department, the Fire & Rescue Department and Politeknik Merlimau Melaka.

The Principal Madam Noridah Binti Ab. Rahim gave away token of appreciation to all the exhibitors.

 

2) Academic visit by Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Perempuan Melayu Durian Daun, Melaka (18 August 2014)

A total of 17 trainee teachers and 2 accompanying lecturers were in the entourage. The objective of the visit was to allow trainee teachers to have more in-depth exposure on the theory and practical aspect in the field of chemical food analysis. Mr. Mohd Najif Bin Ab. Rahman, Head of the Food Section gave a presentation entitled ‘Safety Food’ to start off the visit. This was followed by a question and answer session and a visit to the Food Laboratory.

Before departure, the visitors were invited to Level 2 for some demonstration of several types of food analysis. 

 

3) Academic visit by students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Gajah Berang (20 August 2014)

This visit involved 26 form five students and 3 teachers. The objective of the visit was to allow students to be exposed to knowledge and understanding of forensic science. Mr. Soupy Bin Daud, Head of the Forensic Division conducted briefing and explanation during visit to the various laboratories.

Incidentally, all the visits and exhibition were for the second consecutive year running, indicating the interest shown by the institution concerned.

KARNIVAL KREATIVITI & SCIENCE4U SABAH

Jabatan Kimia Malaysia, Cawangan Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (KIMIA KK) telah menyertai pameran di Karnival Kreativiti & Science4U Sabah yang dianjurkan oleh Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI) di SMK Lohan, Ranau, Sabah pada 11 hingg 13 Ogos, 2014. Karnival ini telah dirasmikan oleh Menteri MOSTI, YB. Datuk Dr. Ewon Ebin pada 11 Ogos, 2014.

Seramai enam orang staf KIMIA KK telah ditugaskan dalam pameran ini. Mereka ialah En Biling ak Peter Raig (Pegawai Sains C48), En Dickens Wong (Pegawai Sains C41), En Ambrose Bin Solinggon (Pegawai Sains C41), Pn Listania Dousi (Pembantu Makmal C17), Pn Rashidah Bt Mohd Yusof (Pembantu Makmal C17) dan En Hassli Bin Abdul Ghani (Pemandu Kenderaan H11).

Program pameran telah bermula pada jam 8.00 pagi 11 Ogos 2014. Agensi-agensi lain seperti Agensi Nuklear Malaysia, Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia, Lembaga Pemasaran Pertanian Persekutuan (FAMA), Cybersecurity Malaysia, Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia dan Polis Di-Raja Malaysia, Giatmara Malaysia turut mengambil bahagian dalam karnival ini.

Pameran KIMIA KK mendapat sambutan baik daripada para pengunjung

 

Peserta pameran terdiri daripada murid-murid dan guru-guru dari SMK Lohan dan orang awam. Pameran yang disediakan oleh KIMIA KK termasuk demostrasi pemeriksaan kesan darah menggunakan kaedah analisis Kestle-Meyer dan analisis saringan untuk mengesan racun rumbut Paraquat. Kami juga mempamerkan beberapa peralatan makmal termasuk vortex shaker, magnetic stirrer dan micropipette kepada para pengunjung. Demostrasi peralatan makmal ini ialah untuk mendedahkan generasi muda dengan peralatan automasi yang menggantikan cara konvensional yang digunakan di dalam makmal sekolah seperti memindah larutan menggunakan pipette kaca dan kacau larutan menggunakan rod kaca. Pertunjukkan ini mendapat sambutan yang baik daripada para pengunjung.

Selain itu, pameran poster-poster yang menerangkan fungsi-fungsi Jabatan Kimia Malaysia dan setiap seksyen di KIMIA KK telah disediakan. Karnival Kreativiti dan Science4U ini telah tamat pada 3.00 petang 12 Ogos 2014. Pameran KIMIA KK telah berjaya menarik perhatian seramai 250 pengunjung.

Program Tanggungjawab Sosial Korporat (CSR) Kimia Malaysia Cawangan Sibu 2014

Pada 18 Jun 2014 (Rabu) telah berlangsung Program Sehari Bersama JKM Sibu  yang merupakan Program Tanggungjawab Sosial Korporat (CSR) Kimia Malaysia cawangan Sibu 2014 yang diadakan di Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Sibu, Sibu, Sarawak. Bertemakan Kimia ke Sekolahprogram sehari tersebut disertai oleh 21 orang kakitangan pelbagai gred. Penganjuran Program CSR pada kali ini adalah bertujuan:

  • Berkongsi maklumat antara JKM Cawangan Sibu dengan sekolah terpilih melalui ceramah kesedaran dan pameran mengenai bahaya dadah dan keselamatan makanan.
  • Memperkenalkan peranan Jabatan Kimia sebagai agensi teknikal yang menjalankan analisis kimia di mana ia perlu didedahkan kepada masyarakat terutamanya pelajar sekolah dan warga pendidik.
  • Memberi peluang kepada warga kimia untuk menyelami serta memahami keadaan di dalam sekolah disamping memberi peluang kepada mereka untuk memberi khidmat bakti kepada masyarakat.

Meskipun tempoh aktiviti projek ini amat singkat, namun ianya telah menjadi titik tolak terhadap kesedaran berterusan terhadap kepentingan Jabatan Kimia Malaysia dan memupuk semangat penting memberikan maklumat tepat dan benar tentang bahan kimia yang digunakan secara sedar atau tidak  kepada warga sekolah, disamping memupuk semangat kemasyarakatan antara warga kimia sendiri dan orang awam. Projek seumpama ini pastinya telah membawa para peserta lebih hampir kepada alam sekitar, dan kepentingan kimia dalam seharian hidup kita.

Program tersebut juga mendapat kerjasama dari rakan-rakan strategik lain seperti Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Sibudan Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI)

Dialogue Sessions Between Director General of Chemistry, Malaysia With Clients and With Staff at Department of Chemistry, Melaka Branch

On 27th Jun 2014 the Director General of Chemistry, Mr. Ahmad Ridzuan Bin Ibrahim made his 2014 official visit to the Department of Chemistry, Melaka Branch, and chaired two dialogue sessions : one with the clients in the morning, and the other with staff of the branch in the afternoon.

The Dialogue Session with Clients was attended by fifty clients representing various ministries and agencies in Johore, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan.Issues highlighted were reviewed, discussed and given first-hand input / reply by the Director General himself, as a show of the high commitment of Chemistry Malaysia to its clients.

In the afternoon, a brief dialogue session with staff was successfully carried out as planned, ending with a group photo session with the Director General.

In between the dialogue sessions, the Director General made a tour of the compound and was given a briefing on the security aspect, as well as the go-green programmes being undertaken at the Melaka branch.
